Alphas & Omegas Raise Big Money for Mentor Program in Cobb
- Old Gold 2014
With the dropout rate on the rise and national test scores on a steady decline, mentor programs are in very high demand especially within the inner city and urban areas. There are many free programs available to our youth but unfortunately they don’t get the proper exposure or they fail due to lack of funding. With this in mind, two long time rivals on the “stomping yard” joined forces to raise funds and exposure to a very effective mentoring program in Cobb County, named Marietta Mentoring for Leadership.
This past Friday at Marietta Middle school the stands where packed with members of the Alpha Phi Alpha and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, friends, family members and scattered chapters of supporting frats and sororities. They all came to see a Charity Basketball Showdown between the Alphas & Omegas. The game was full of excitement with a halftime step performance to be remembered. Although the Purple & Gold (Omegas) took home the trophy with a 5 point win, the true victors where the kids who can continue to benefit from the free resources that the Marietta Mentoring Program has to offer. Hot 107.9’s own Reec kept the crowd hype during the event and gave away many gift items courtesy of Positive American Youth and Nissan Next. Check out pics from the event below!
